PRECISE MEASUREMENT OF FINE STRUCTURE INTERVALS IN ATOMIC IONS BY LASER MAGNETIC RESONANCE SPECTROSCOPY: N+N^{+} AND C+C^{+}

Abstract

Address of Cooksy, Hovde, Blake, and Saykally: Department of Chemistry, University of California, Berkeley, CA 94720Author Institution:Direct observation of the J=2←1J=2\leftarrow 1 fine structure transition in 3PN+^{3}P N^{+} and the J=3/2←1/2J=3/2\leftarrow 1/2 transition in 2PC+^{2}P C^{+} by far-infrared laser magnetic resonance spectroscopy has led to the precise evaluation of these fine structure splittings and corresponding gJg_{J}-factors and hyperfine parameters. These values are expected to facilitate the observation and analysis of these transitions in the interstellar medium
