ANALYSIS OF THE UV LASER TRANSITION IN Br2Br_{2}

Author Institution: Department of ChemistryThe previously reported vibrational analysis of the dβ€²β†’Aβ€²d^{\prime} \rightarrow A^{\prime} transition (2900 {\AA}) in Br2Br_{2} is extended to include additional bands obtained by photographing the emission from isotopically separated 79Br2^{79}Br_{2} and 81Br2^{81} Br_{2}. From measurements of the partially resolved rotational structure in several prominent bands, employed together with Franck-Condon and centrifugal distortion calculations, we obtain a rotational analysis. The results indicate that Reβ€²β€²=2.69R_{e}^{\prime\prime} = 2.69 \AA, which is comparable to the known values for the B(0^{+} u \; ^{3}\Pi) and A(1u3Ξ )A(1u^{3}\Pi) states. The analysis supports the 2g3Ξ β†’2u3Ξ 2g ^{3}\Pi \rightarrow 2u ^{3}\Pi designation for this transition
