100 J. BENTON JONES, JR. AND F. HAGHIRI Vol.A RECORD OF DIADOPHIS PUNCTATUS EDWARDSI (MERREM)FROM JEFFERSON COUNTY, OHIO. A single juvenile specimen of theEastern Ring-Necked Snake, Diadophis punctatus edwardsi (Merrem), 117 mmlong, was turned over to us by a gentleman who had found it in a cabinet in hisgarage together with an adult (presumably the mother) which got away. Thegarage is located in Wintersville, Ohio, and was recently built, together with theadjoining house, in a" clearing made at the edge of a wooded area. The specimenwas taken on a bright sunny day on Oct. 28, 1961, and was in a lively conditionwhen brought in to our laboratory for identification and storage the followingMonday. In the second edition of Conant (1951: 215), there is no record of thisspecies from Jefferson County but the author does state that the snaike is un-doubtedly distributed more widely than the records show because of its secretivehabits.—PAUL S.
