Labour pain can cause changes of body physiology and give psychological impact of mothers significantly. Changes of body physiology such as hyperventilation with alkalosis respiration would increased of cardiac out put, and increase of blood pressure, while psychological changes can cause post partum depression. One of the pharmaceutical labour pain management is the use of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS). This research is to analyse the influence of TENS used on the decrease of pain intensity and anxiety of mother inpartu 1st stage. This is an experiment study and user pre test and post test control group design. The samples were divided into two groups; fist group was intervention group that was used TENS and second group was control group who have been given standard rearing. Each group contains 10 mothers who are inpartu 1st stage physiological active phase in labour room Haji hospital Batu City. The instrument to measure pain is Bourbonnais scale and anxiety is Hamilton Rating Scale Anxiety (HAR-S). The data was analysed using Willcoxon Signed Rank, Man-Whitney Test (α = 0.05). The result found there was significant difference between mothers who given TENS and mothers who have been given standard rearing (p = 0.000). This result showed that TENS could be decreased pain intensity and anxiety level on mother inpartu 1st stage effectively. As TENS is predicted that it works to stimulate endorphin, it is suggested to do a further study to examine the influence of TENS use for endorphin degree.Key words: TENS, pain intensity, anxiety level, labour 1st stag
