Oil and gas emerging from reservoirs are almost always accompanied by other substances, including water, carbon dioxide, and organic acids. This cocktail can give rise to a very aggressive environment where significant corrosion of carbon steel components is highly likely. Organic corrosion inhibitors are often added to the process fluid to limit this damage, as well as in external intervention procedures (e.g. acidizing). The present work focuses on understanding the performance of one such molecule, 2-mercaptobenzimidazole (MBI). Weight loss and electrochemical measurements are employed to probe the impact of various environmental parameters, including pH, temperature, and dissolved oxygen concentration
