A predictive multivariable constraint controller was applied on a distn. column for sepg. crude PhOH from crude Me2CO at the Mt. Vernon [Indiana] PhOH-manufg. facility, which was characterized by implementation of a dynamic matrix controlled (OMC) algorithm. Previous attempts at control had met with only limited success. A unique characteristic of the controller was that the controlled tray temp. was dynamically identified and subsequently controlled as an integrator-type response. Operation of the column improved, increasing the onstream factor to &gt;95% and increasing quality with 1.25% increased throughput. [on SciFinder(R)
