Produção de carvão vegetal a partir de plantações de eucalipto em Minas Gerais: vantagens econômicas da carbonização e do cultivo em pequena e em larga escala
The article aims to compare charcoal and eucalyptus firewood production systems that differ interms of the scale of the kilns employed and the size of annual harvest areas. Data from steeland pig-iron aimed charcoal production of the Brazilian State of Minas Gerais is used tocompare, in terms of average production cost, four charcoal production systems. Theconclusions reached are: (i) small scale carbonization is the most profitable option whatever theforestry scale; (ii) small forest-farmer-based forestry allows for the least forestry averagevariable cost.
