The distribution of saponins and leucoanthocyanins in 21 species of Cassia and its systematic significance were studied. Quant. and qual. interpopulation variation occurred in saponins. Leucoanthocyanins were absent from herbaceous and semiwoody species of Cassia; they were also absent from yellow-flowered species.
