DURHAM, N.H. ­ The University of New Hampshire will host a symposium, "Totalitarianism and
the Human Spirit" March 27­28, 2009, on its Durham campus, and honor a retiring German
professor. 
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the East German (GDR)
regime; the 65th anniversary of the July 20, 1944, plot against Hitler; and the 100th birthday
of Adam von Trott, a major thinker among those involved in that effort. 
In two days of film, lecture and discussion, UNH will commemorate these events and celebrate
the retirement of Nancy Lukens, professor of German and women's studies, whose work
