Assessment of Animal Agriculture in Sub-Saharan Africa

Abstract

Report of a study assessing animal agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa managed by Winrock International. The study was supported by TAC, ILRAD, ILCA and several donors. Its purpose was to recommend a strategy and program actions that will enable animal agriculture to contribute to the optimization of food production and human development in sub-Saharan Africa on an equitable, sustainable, and environmentally sound basis. The strategy presented addressed agroecological zones, types of production systems, research priorities and institutions including crop oriented IARCs, extension, education, and support, as well as environmental issues. This study was discussed at TAC 56 in October 1991, and was revised for further discussion at TAC 58 in June 1992
