Time and Space in the Poem “The Seasons” by Kristijonas Donelaitis. The Original Text and Translations

Abstract

Bakalaura darbā „Laiks un telpa Kristijona Donelaiša poēmā „Gadalaiki”. Oriģinālteksts un tulkojumi” ir analizēta poēmas laiktelpa – daiļdarbs ir īpatnējs ar to, ka vienkopus apvieno gan reālo, vēsturisko laiku un telpu, kuru caurvij apgaismības idejas, kolonizācijas sekas un piētisms, gan mītisko – ideālo mikrokosmu, kas atklājas laika cikliskumā – gadalaiku maiņā, saules tēlā un svētkos. Donelaiša poēmas oriģinālā laiktelpa tiek skatīta salīdzinošā aspektā ar K. Vatsona, Sudrabu Edžus, J. Jaunsudrabiņa un P. Kalvas poēmas tulkojumu fragmentiem. Katra tulkotāja veikums tiek novērtēts un analizēts laiktelpas atveides aspektā.The Bachelor thesis „Time and space in the poem „The Seasons” by Kristijonas Donelaitis. The original text and translations” analyzes poem’s time and space – poem is distinguished in the way it combines both real and historical time and space, which is represented by the Enlightenment ideas, the effects of colonization and pietism, and mythical time-space – ideal microcosm that reveals in cycle of nature and time – change of seasons, the image of the sun and traditional holidays. Poem`s original time-space is viewed in comparison with its Latvian translations by K. Vatson, Sudrabu Edžus, J. Jaunsudrabiņš and P. Kalva, where each translator's achievement is analyzed through the prism of time-space re-creation
