Understanding themechanisms controlling stem growth isessential for parameterization of globalvegetation models and to accuratelypredict C sequestration of forestecosystems. However, we stil! lack athorough understanding of temporalvariations in stem growth of tropicalforest ecosystems, which will be key indetermining potential clirnate feedbacksunder projected global changes.ConclusionsOur results indicate that fluctuations instem dia meter were related to seasonalvariations in temperature and wateravailability, such that tropical stem growthrates were positively related totemperature and precipitation during thewet season but showed a negative trendduring the onset of the dry season. We furtheridentified a changing pattern of diurnalgrowth signals in response to clirnateseasonality, i.e, a positive response ofdiurnal stem growth patterns during thewet season (blue symbols) but a negativediurnal stem growth response, i.e. middaydepression, during the dry season (redsymbols).
