O pai já foi visto como fonte de orientação moral, disciplinador, passou por ser considerado o sustento da família e o modelo a seguir. Actualmente já é visto como cuidador, mas ainda com algumas reservas. Sabemos que a relação conjugal, a ocupação profissional e a rede social influenciam o comportamento paterno e por consequência o desenvolvimento da criança. Assim desenvolveu-se um estudo para tentar verificar se o emprego (quer do pai como da mãe) influência, e de que forma influência, o envolvimento do pai com a criança. Para tal criou-se um questionário baseado na teoria de Lamb (1897 cit. por Parke, 1995) que defende que o envolvimento é composto por três componentes: a interacção, a disponibilidade e a responsabilidade. As conclusões sugerem que o tipo de horário, o número de horas diárias de trabalho, o trabalho aos fins-de-semana e o facto de a mãe estar ou não empregada têm influência no envolvimento paterno.ABSTRACT: The study of father-child relation is relatively recent, when compared with mother-child relation. The father has been seen has a source of moral guidance, as disciplinarian, he was seen as the bread-winner and a role model. Nowadays he is already seen as a care taker but still with some reserves. We know that the marital relation, the job and the social network influence father behaviour and consequently the child development. Therefore it was developed a study to verify if the job (of either parents) had any influence and if so, in which way, in the father involvement with his child. It was built a questionnaire based on Lamb’s theory (1897 cit. by Parke, 1995) that defends that the involvement has tree components: interaction, availability and responsibility. Conclusions suggest that the type of schedule, number of daily work hours, working or not in weekends, and mothers having or not a job influence fathers involvement
