He plans on teaching high school English andwill always continue to write. Outside of Manuscripts, he is alsoinvolved with College Mentors for Kids, a tutor in ButlerUniversity's Writers' Studio, is a member of the Phi Kappa PsiFraternity and the Sigma Tau Delta English honors fraternity.Christopher greatly enjoys outdoor sports - backpacking anddownhill skiing are his favorite activities +and reading andwriting have long been a passion of his. He enjoys reading KurtVonnegut, Tom Robbins and Chuck Palahniuk and writesmainly short fiction.50===========================================================================manuscrip~Tracy BowlingJunior EditorA junior English!Creative Writing majorwith a concentration inMiddle/SecondaryEducation, Tracy has animmense love for lan-guage and literature thatshe hopes to impart toher students. Her plans for the next year include studentteaching and working on her thesis, an original drama based onhistorical accounts of the Underground Railroad.In addition to her work with Manuscripts, Tracy stays connect-ed to writers both on and off campus through the Indianapoliswriters' group RRRR and her job as a Writer's Studio tutor. Sheis herself a writer, having made appearances at the Indianapoetry Festival and the 2005 and 2006 Undergraduate ResearchConferences. Tracy also has a passion for film scores, and sheoccasionally writes her own compositions for student films.She is devoted to her faith, her family, her future career, andManuscripts, and proudly accepts the challenge of making nextyear's magazine the best issue yet.~~===============================51O'ConnellPaddy O'Connell is asenior English Literaturemajor from River Forest,Illinois. He has beenthe Manuscripts EventsCoordinator for the pasttwo years and has beeninvolved with the maga-zine since his junior year at Butler. He is the president ofSigma Tau Delta, Butler's English fraternity, which means thathe is perhaps the biggest dork on campus. He believes in thenow, holding steadfast to a Henry David Thoreau quote: "Livethe life you have imagined."//Paddy enjoys any activity that is soul enriching and results in asmile. He spends most of his time living life in fast forward andleaning into the whir. Literature, poetry specifically, is a deeppassion for the young man. He can not stop reading and writ-ing, hoping to some day punch the world in the gut.His favorite writers include W.S. Merwin, Charles Wright, C.K.Williams, Mary Oliver, Ezra Pound, Wallace Stevens, JackKerouac, and Kurt Vonnegut. He also enjoys reading soulwrenching world literature. He believes in this magazine andhopes that the passion he put forth towards poetry and thedevelopment of Manuscripts lives on far longer than he. Healso enjoys speaking in the third person.52b:~===================================~~crip~Calli GrimesAdvertising ChairCalli is a sophomoreEnglish Writing andPsychology major.Along with being part ofthe Manuscripts staff thelast two years, she is alsoa member of the ButlerCross Country andTrack and Field teams. Recently, she has begun volunteering atthe Julian Center. Calli enjoys spending time with her friends,traveling, camping, and dance parties. Sometimes, she picks outa crazy good record, turns on the lava lamp, and plays chess.She loves eating pea pods and drinking green tea while watch-ing rented movies.After college, she plans on joining the Peace Corps, and eventu-ally getting her doctorate in English. She believes that every-one should lie down in the rain before they die, and eat icecream.Calli loves reading until the letters get blurred, and the mustysmell of old pages. She is passionate about writing, and hasbeen inspired by great voices of Jose Saramago, Shakespeare,John Steinbeck, Tennyson, and Robert Bly. She is excited aboutthe magazine and where it will go in the years to follow. She isalso excited about studying in England next semester, or as shewould like to call it "returning to the homeland."~~=================================53Diane HardinStaff MemberDiane Hardin is a sopho-more Creative Writingmajor and Religionminor from MountVernon, Indiana. Shewould like to becomeeither a government spyor a Disney songwriter ifshe ever grows up. Along with this, she plans to have a baseballteam of children, preferably with a husband.She loves writing, reading, eating cookie dough, fishing, singingloudly in the car, watching movies, and laughing. She hateschocolate and mint together, the movie Closer, and that shecannot stop herself from laughing when people fall - especiallytall people.Outside of Manuscripts, Diane is involved with SGA and servesas a member of the Coffeehouse and Communications commit-tees. She adores volunteering at Riley once a week and shewaitresses at Olive Garden on 38th street every Friday,Saturday, and Sunday. She thoroughly enjoys serving Butlerstudents who request her.Diane has high expectations for Manuscripts if the many sub-missions from talented students this year were indicative of theupcoming years.54 ===============================================================rnanuscrip~Karen WittingStaff MemberKaren is a sophomoreEnglish/CreativeWriting major with atheater minor. She is amember of Pi Beta Phisorority, and writes thehoroscopes for theCollegian, forcing herstrange sense of humor on the entire Butler community. Shealso works as an assistant in Butler Theater's costume shop,where she fosters her love of David Bowie and showtunes whileparked behind a sewing machine for several hours each day.There she has learned to identify fabrics by the smell they giveoff while burning and has contributed to everything from ahand-headed wedding dress to a twenty inch Salieri costume.She hails from the wonderful northwest side of Chicago anddoes the Sun-Times crossword puzzle every night online.When she is not busy with classes or extracurriculars, Karenenjoys reading, sketching, and taking road trips.==============================================55Meagan HinzeStaff MemberMeagan is a freshmanand a Chemistry majorwith a Music minor. Shehas a great love forGermany as well as thelanguage and hopes tomaybe even major in itas well.Meagan is also an avid reader when she actually has free time(which is rare during the school year since she always hashomework or is practicing a musical instrument) and enjoysreading poems of somewhat obscure German poets (thoughRilke is still one of her favorites).
