The brief story of music education demands a balance and adjustment that situates its position in the curriculum from the
social function in education. The general area of knowledge seen from the latest integrating currents and the study of
socially complex situations in which this article is placed shows a social and school sound map whose inventory, distribution
and use of musical protagonists and sounds unveils a series of gaps and dysfunction. The most important part appears on
imposing both maps. The maximum difficulty resides in establishing terms of comparison that justify that the small school
institution has to give account to the larger school, its reference that proportions first existence and later sense. Music is
today an object of consumption persuasion and manipulation and a small object of knowledge that requires the implication
of all the educational and school agents.La breve historia de la educación musical demanda un balance y ajuste que sitúe su posición en el currículo desde la
función social de la educación. El campo general del saber, visto desde las últimas corrientes integradoras, y el estudio de
situaciones sociales complejas en el que se sitúa el artículo, muestra un mapa sonoro social y escolar cuyo inventario,
distribución y uso de los agentes musicales y sonoros desenmascara una serie carencias y disfunciones. Pero lo más
importante aparece al superponer ambos mapas, la máxima dificultad reside en establecer términos de comparación que
justifiquen que, el pequeño, la institución escolar, tiene que rendir cuentas al grande, su referente, que le proporciona
primero existencia y después sentido. La música es hoy un gran objeto de consumo, persuasión y manipulación, y un
pequeño objeto de conocimiento que requiere de la implicación de todos los agentes educativos escolares
