Odontologia.Desde a descoberta da osseointegração por Branemark em 1964, implantes dentários vêm sido utilizados em reabilitações orais devido a sua alta previsibilidade e segurança. Com novas descobertas tecnológicas, buscas por melhores resultados estéticos e funcionais tornaram-se cada vez mais comuns. Alterações na camada superficial do implante dentário mostraram-se eficientes para a obtenção de melhores processos de osseointegração e regeneração tecidual, desta forma inúmeros tipos de tratamentos de superfícies foram sugeridos e, assim, estudos que visem a melhoria dos aspectos biológicos de implantes dentários devem ser realizados. Esta revisão de literatura buscou encontrar informações sobre a importância da superfície do implante em relação à osseointegração. Buscas foram realizadas utilizando bases de dados como Scielo, PubMed, Scopus, LILACS e Web Of Science com as palavras-chave: Dental, Implants, Titanium, Osseointegration, Surface, Micro topography, Coating, Treatment. As informações foram compiladas com o intuito de fornecer bases concretas para o estudo e pesquisas sobre superfícies de implantes dentários.Since the discovery of osseointegration by Branemark in 1964, dental implants have been used in oral rehabilitations because of their high predictability and safety. With new technological discoveries, searches for better aesthetic and functional results have become increasingly common. Alterations in the superficial layer of the dental implant were efficient to obtain better processes of osseointegration and tissue regeneration, in this way innumerable types of surface treatments were suggested and, therefore, studies aimed at improving the biological aspects of dental implants should be performed. This literature review sought to find information about the importance of implant surface in relation to osseointegration. Searches were conducted using databases such as Scielo, PubMed, Scopus, LILACS and Web of Science with the keywords: Dental, Implants, Titanium, Osseointegration, Surface, Micro topography, Coating, Treatment. The information was compiled in order to provide concrete basis for the study and research on surfaces of dental implants
