During the fall semester, we hosted anumber of distinguished lectures, conferences, and workshops. Robert Jordan,the former U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, launched our distinguishedlecture series in September with a fascinating discussion of energy policy inSaudi Arabia and implications for the United States. We hosted a workshop inWashington, D.C. in October that featured Kevin Ramnarine, the formerEnergy Minister for Trinidad and Tobago, and Jim Loftis, head of theInternational Dispute Resolution Practice for Vinson & Elkins. Our faculty andfellows published articles in peer-reviewed journals and were also quoted bylocal, state, and national media outlets in energy-related news stories.Finally, KBH Center faculty taught over 20 courses and seminars in the Schoolof Law and McCombs School of Business this semester. This fall, we welcomed a new Energy Journalism Fellow, a new AdvisoryCouncil member, and a new staff member. Lorne Matalon is the 2016-2017 UTEnergy Journalism Fellow. Lorne is the Fronteras Desk reporter based inMarfa, Texas, at Marfa Public Radio/West Texas Public Radio. Lorne'sInvestigative Series on Energy Development in Borderland Mexico recentlywon the 2016 National Edward R. Murrow Award. Bernard F. "Buddy" Clark,chair of the Energy Practice Group of Haynes and Boone, joined our AdvisoryCouncil in November. Last May, Ana Martinez joined the KBH Center as itsnew Administrative Associate.Finally, I want to invite you to join us at our Second Annual KBH CenterSymposium - the centerpiece of our programming this year. The title of thesymposium is "The Future of the Oil and Gas Industry: Peak Oil or PeakDemand - What's on the Horizon?" and will feature some of the nation'sleaders in the oil and gas sector. Industry leaders, including Scott Sheffield,David Baldwin, Jack Gerard, and Tom Petrie, will speak. The symposium willbe held at the Four Seasons Hotel Austin on February 10, 2017.
