El cine de ciencia ficción como recurso didáctico y su aplicación en Biología y Geología durante la Educación Secundaria Obligatoria

Abstract

El artículo plantea una unidad didáctica en la que se aborda el tema de “La herencia y la transmisión de los caracteres” de la asignatura de Biología y Geología (4ºESO, LOE) utilizando el cine científico como recurso didáctico central a través de la película de ciencia ficción “Gattaca" dirigida por Andrew Niccol en 1997. La demostrada atracción de las nuevas generaciones hacia los medios audiovisuales y la capacidad que estos tienen de transmitir historias o mensajes hacen del cine un recurso muy útil a la hora de enseñar ciencia en el aula. Para que los alumnos muestren interés por el temario es importante que se sientan identificados con él, algo que no siempre es fácil en las asignaturas de ciencias dado el carácter distante o abstracto de muchos de sus conceptos, por lo que el uso de iniciativas y métodos didácticos que acerquen estos conceptos a su propia realidad ayudará no sólo a que los estudiantes muestren un mayor entendimiento por el temario a aprender, sino a que también reflexionen sobre temas éticos en el contexto de la sociedad actual. More specifically, the movie selected for this unit is “Gattaca”, directed by Andrew Niccol in 1997. The increasing interest new generations are showing in all forms of media, such as film, and the capacity it has of transmitting stories or information makes this a very useful resource when teaching science in the classroom. For students to be interested in what we teach them it is important that they feel identified with what they have to learn, but because of how unrelatable and complicated some of the concepts can be in science related subjects this isn’t always the case. That is why the use of initiatives and didactic methods that bring these concepts closer to home for the students can help not only with their understanding and interest of the subject, but also with their own reflection of current topics in our social context.
