The level III of the Cueva del Esquilleu (Castro-Cillórigo, Cantabria)

Abstract

El nivel III de la Cueva del Esquilleu es el nivel superior de una larga secuencia musterien­se (no concluida) que hasta el momento ha proporcionado trece niveles fértiles. La posición estratigráfica y cultural de este nivel, así como la situación geográfica del yacimiento (Picos de Europa) hacen de la colec­ción que presentamos un interesante exponente del Musteriense final cántabro. El análisis de los materiales ha permitido reconstruir una secuencia técnica caracterizada por los esquemas de talla discoides, en los que apenas se atisban elementos de evolución industrial.The level III of the Cueva del Esquilleu is the upper one of a long Mousterian sequence that up to now has provided thirteen fertile levels. The cultural and stratigraphic position of this level, as well as its geographic location (Picos de Europa) makes the commented collection an interesting exponent of the Cantabrian late Mousterian period. The analisys of the materials has permitted the reconstruction of a technical sequence charasterised by discoid flaking in wich the elements of industrials evolutions are scarcelly found
