Thomas Alexander is Professor of Philosophy at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, where he has taught for over thirty years. His focus of research is the thought of John Dewey and other figures in American philosophy, such as Emerson and Santayana. He also has a strong interest in Native American wisdom traditions. His father and grandfather were both philosophers, the former teaching at The University of New Mexico and the latter at the University of Nebraska and, later, Scripps College, California. Besides American philosophy, Alexander studies and teaches classical philosophy. He grew up in Albuquerque and attended the University of New Mexico, initially planning on a career in geology. He obtained his graduate degree in philosophy from Emory University, Atlanta. He has two sons, Adam and Nathan, both making their ways in the world. His wife, Felicia Kruse (Alexander) is a noted scholar of the thought of Charles S. Peirce and writes on the aesthetics of music. She also is a violist, currently with The Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra. She taught many years at Xavier University, Cincinnati. She and her husband live in the woods, neighbors to owls, woodpeckers, a groundhog, tribes of deer, and the occasional bald eagle.  Bickel, Barbara.  Barbara Bickel, Ph.D. is an artist, researcher, and educator. An Associate Professor of Art Education and Director of Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, USA she teaches art as an inquiry and interdisciplinary meaning making process. Her research interests include arts-based inquiry methods, collaboration, socially engaged art, matrixial theory, moving image video art, feminist spirituality, women’s leadership, and restorative and transformative learning. Her art and performance rituals have been exhibited and performed in Canada and the US since 1991. She is a co-founder and member of the Gestare Art Collective, an artist collective committed to honouring and practicing gestation as an artful form of inquiry and pedagogy. http://www.gestareartcollective.com. Aaron Darrisaw is a 2nd year PhD student of philosophy at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. His central area of research is in contemporary French philosophy, with a specific focus on the philosophies of Emmanuel Levinas and Jacques Derrida. His main interest is social and political theory, drawing upon the insights of the aforementioned thinkers to theorize more just political arrangements. In support of his primary research endeavors, Aaron has secondary research interests in the critical theory of the Frankfurt School as well as Marxist theory. Davey, Jon.  Professor Jon Daniel Davey Ph.D., A.I.A. Distinguished Professor in the School of Architecture is an Architect, Registered Interior Designer, Director of Kid Architecture and Le Petit Grand Tour d’Architecture Programs.  He has been guiding tours through Bellefontaine for 34 years.  His teaching awards include; School of Architecture Teacher of the Year (five times), College Teacher of the Year (twice), College Core Curriculum Teacher of the Year and Distinguished Faculty Award (twice) and School of Architecture Scholar and College Scholar of the year.  As program director of Kid Architecture he has developed and conducted workshops of design of the built environment being awarded; An Award of Merit from the American Architecture Foundation (twice), the Citation of Honor AIA Illinois, The R. Buckminster Fuller Award from the American Institute of Architects Illinois, Award of Distinction in the Children’s Environmental Advocacy The Urban Network, Commendations from The Construction Specification Institute Southern Illinois Chapter of the American Institute of Architects Presidential Award for Education  and Connections Citation, Illinois State School Board. He has design experience in architecture and engineering offices. Davey has developed and conducted 81 travel/study programs to Europe, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, India and Cuba.  His present research is Neuroscience in Architecture. Hackbart-Dean, Pam.  Pam Hackbart-Dean is director of the Special Collections Research Center at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, a position she has held since 2006. Responsible for the administration and development of Special Collections, she has fostered a program that documents philosophy of education and engages in a variety of public programming and strategic partnerships such as that with the Center for John Dewey Studies.  Previously she was head of Special Collections & Archives at Georgia State University and Director of the Southern Labor Archives. From 1990 to 2000, she was the assistant department head/processing archivist for the Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Study at the University of Georgia.  Pam received her MA in history from the University of Connecticut with a certificate in archival management and public history and her BA in history from Hendrix College (Conway, AR). Rain-Gianneschi, Patricia.   Patricia Rain-Gianneschi received her BFA , and teaching credential at  The University of California, Berkeley and her MAAE from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Following her BFA she served as a Peace Corps volunteer, teaching art in the Philippines and began to explore music as a part of her artistic practice.  Politically and spiritually inspired, she returned to Chicago with her new music and has been awarded by the Chicago Reggae Arts community for her unique style of folk music. For the next 22 years Rain submerged herself in the trenches of the Chicago Public Schools, teaching, mentoring, and inspiring tens of thousands of students in the Arts. Before retiring from CPS in 2012, she received two “Illinois Art Educator of the Year” Awards, the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation’s “Power of Art” Award for her work in Art Education & Special Education. She is the recipient of six Oppenheimer Teacher Awards, and partnered with the Art Institute of Chicago for nine years, creating Performance Art in the Galleries of The Art Institute of Chicago. Rain is currently the Chair of CSAE, and a Low-Res MFA 2017 Candidate at SAIC.                                  artizein                  Volume II/Issue I                  SPECIAL EDITION                                      852Artizein: Arts and Teaching Journal, Vol. 2 [2016], Iss. 1, Art. 13http://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/atj/vol2/iss1/13 Arts & Teaching  November, 2016BIOGRAPHY for PETER LONDON    A Brooklyn boy,  Peter earned recognition early on as an artist when his Kindergarten teacher found his drawing of a locomotive chugging along a field of flowers unusual but quite nice.  Encouraged ever since, Peter continues to this day creating art, essays, gardens, furniture, and art classes that might also be said to be unusual but quite nice. Schooled in New York City, BA in Painting from Queens College, MFA in Painting from Columbia University, Ed.D . Columbia University Teachers College, he was awarded a post doctorate Fellowship  in Expressive Therapies from Lesley University. Pivotal art teaching in New York City high schools, The Museum of Modern Art, then Concordia University in Montreal, 1967 -1971, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth from 1971 until his retirement in 2000 as Chancellor Professor Emeritus. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Maryland Institute College of Art, and is a Distinguished Fellow of the National Art Education Association. He is most honored to have  his papers collected by Southern Illinois University.  Peter has presented key note addresses to over forty state and regional and international art and art education conventions, guest lectured at many national and international venues, authored several books on art and its teaching, authored and edited many articles and journals, curated many exhibitions of his own and of other artists work, wrote monographs and art reviews for newspapers, journals and galleries, co-founded and was the first president of the Spirituality in Art Education caucus of the NAEA, exhibits and his art work collected internationally. John Dewey, Buckminster Fuller, Viktor Lowenfeld, Martin Buber, Claude Monet, Johannes Brahms, Charlie Beck, and his uncle Herm make up the central constellation of his cosmic order.
