Bijzonder Onderzoek naar Natuurrampen in Japan: Een onderzoek naar het gedrag van tsunami die het land hebben overstroomd en naar de mechanismen van de door hun stroming veroorzaakte calamiteiten

Abstract

ALTHOUGH THE ABSTRACT IS PROVIDED IN ENGLISH, THE REPORT IS IN DUTCH (translated from Japanese to Dutch) The objective of the present research is to investigate the mechanism of disaster causing on houses as well as public facilities due to the flooded tsunami behavior. In order to perform the stated investigation, the following two items should be clarified. These are 1) the method to predict or evaluate precisely the tsunami magnitude, and the current speed and direction of flooded tsunami, and 2) the mechanism of disaster causing on houses and other various facilities due to tsunami itself as well as the floating bodies drifted by tsunami. Based on the above concept. the effort of the research group was concentrated to the two subjects stated above. The research members were basically divided into two parties. The research aim of the first party was to study the tsunami behavior before and after its flooding; that is to say, the main target was to predict precisely the spatial distribution as well as the time history of tsunami wave height and tsunami induced current velocity which must be the key points to understand the behavior of flooded tsunami. Two approaches of the physical as well as the numerical models were applied to carry out the above investigations. The research aim of the second party was to study the disaster causing mechanism. The disaster of the structures was classified into two types; the one was caused by the direct action of tsunami, and the other one was caused by the floating bodies such as the destroyed houses, and the drifting timbers, rafts and boats. Experimental investigations were mainly carried out for each type mentioned above. The results were summarized and then were applied to predict disaster caused by tsunami in Suruga Bay area.Geïntegreerd Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek naar Natuurrampe
