During translation process, the translator should fully understand the meaning, semantic relations and metatextual elements of the sentences. It is obvious that the most complex grammatical problems of translation are connected with the understanding of syntactic and morphological structure of sentences as linguistic elements that directly convey subject information.  There are no articles, gerunds, tense forms of Continuous and Perfect tenses verb groups, complex subject and additional infinitival constructions in Ukrainian, but in the English language, for example, there are no noun and adjectives genders. Some differences in sentence construction is also observed: unlike the Ukrainian language, where the subject can often come after  the predicate, in the English language, the order of the principle parts of the sentence is strictly fixed, that may require a sentence reconstruction in the course of translation. Grammatical translation difficulties are also related to various amount of content of similar in both languages forms and constructions. The form of the verb-predicate in the Present Tense in  Ukrainian  corresponds partially to the Present Indefinite, the Present Continuous and the Present Perfect tenses in English, and the form of the Ukrainian genitive noun can correspond to its grammatical meaning to the English prepositional-nominal constructions "of + N" or to the form of a common case of the noun in preposition to the other noun. One more group of grammatical translation difficulties is the  grammatical phenomena of the original texts, that are different from the corresponding grammatical phenomena of the target language, the functional characteristics, for example,  singular and plural forms of the noun exist both in Ukrainian and English, but the forms of concrete nouns may not be the same. For example, the English word evidence is used only in singular, but can be translated both in singular and plural [2, p.117-119]. The next group of grammatical difficulties in translation comprises those grammatical phenomena that have different frequency characteristics  69 in English and Ukrainian scientific and technical literature. In English the frequency forms of the passive voice of the verb-predicate is higher than in Ukrainian, so in the course of translation, such forms should often be replaced with the active voice forms.  Another group of grammatical difficulties is connected with the peculiarities of expression of the parts of the sentence in two languages, particularly of the subject and the predicate. For example, in English there is a so-called "formal subject" and "formal object" that are not applicable in the structure of Ukrainian sentences. Only a small number of English and Ukrainian expressions are of identical syntactic structure and the components order and only in such a case, an English expression can be translated by equivalent Ukrainian phrase without any grammatical transformations. This translation is called "word-for-word "or "literal" translation. It should be distinguished from grammatical word-for-word translation. Grammatical literalism leads not only to violation of  target language norms, but also to various distortions in conveying the meaning of the original text. For example, the application of grammatical word-for-word translation for the sentence ‒ A new element will be discovered sooner or later. ‒ Новий елемент буде відкрито раніше чи пізніше. ‒ reveals a violation of comparative forms of adverbs functioning in Ukrainian, for such cases positive, but not comparative degree should be used (sooner or later/ рано чи пізно) [1, p.187-189]. In order to avoid inappropriate literal translation (grammatical word-for-word  translation), translation grammatical transformations should be used, due to which literal translation adapts to the norms of the target language and becomes a faithful translation.  The main difficulty in translation of scientific and technical texts, namely in translation of terms, is in unveiling and conveying foreign realities by means of the Ukrainian language. Translator’s complete understanding of the text is the prerequisite of a qualitative translation of any text. Verbatim learning of terms without penetrating into their essence, knowledge of phenomena, processes and mechanisms referred to in the original text, may cause gross errors in translation.  For this reason, the translator should study thoroughly the domain science he specializes in.   1. Карабан В. І. Асоціативно-образні номінації представлено у мові лексемами і фраземами, які утворилися у результаті метафоричної або метонімічної трансформації значення існуючих у мові слів і виразів. Лондон часто називають The Big Smoke, тим самим підкреслюючи характерну для столиці Великої Британії та величезного мегаполіса загазованість. Назва найбільшого з п'яти дзвонів Вестмінстерського палацу в Лондоні та назва годинника і Годинникової вежі в цілому Big Ben виникла внаслідок асоціації споруди з куратором її будівництва – сером Бенджаміном Холлом, людиною високого зросту.  Метафора – це перенесення назви з одних предметів, явищ, дій, ознак на інші на основі подібності між ними. Наприклад, назва найбільшого у світі колеса огляду London Eye утворилася внаслідок асоціації форми споруди з оком, з одного боку, та за призначенням цього атракціону – оглядати місто з висоти, з іншого. Виставковий центр набув назви Millennium Dome, яке відбиває форму будівлі – наявність куполу, та її призначення – розміщення виставки Millennium Experience, приуроченої до святкування настання третього тисячоліття. Метонімія (грец. μετωνυμία – перейменування) – це слово, значення якого переноситься на найменування іншого предмета, пов'язаного з властивим для цього слова предметом за своєю природою. Так, лондонська підземка, відома серед народу як tube – "труба".  Вторинна номінація метрополітену ґрунтується на асоціації тунелів метро з трубопроводом. Назва відомого британського автобусу double decker виникла в результаті метонімічного переносу якості транспортного засобу (наявність двох поверхів) на увесь об'єкт номінації. Залежно від прагматичних намірів авторів цих номінацій
