Surveillance for the use of anabolic agents in slaughter animals. Report on an investigation of minced meat for residues of boldenone, ethynylestradiol, medroxyprogesterone, chlormadinone and megesterol

Abstract

This report describes the results obtained in an investigation of 99 samples minced beef for the presence of illegal xenobiotic anabolic steroids. In five samples (5%) the presence of medroxyprogesterone was detected in a range of 0.9 to 5.6 mug/kg. The identity of the residues was confirmed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in accordance with the EC-criteria for reference methods. The concentrations detected do not pose a serious risk for the consumer.VH
