They are, improving resource efficiency, developing new business models and adopting new technology. These are not the only strategies by which to achieve sustainable manufacturing or improved competitiveness. However, they are a prioritised response to current global trends, government signals and challenges and opportunities for Australian manufacturers. Manufacturing in Australia has reached a crossroad. Tough economic conditions mean in order to survive manufacturers must adapt and respond to competitive pressures by innovating to remain productive and prosperous. This paper provides an overview of the drivers, enablers and an example for each innovation response. This clearly demonstrates the link between innovation and sustainable manufacturing and how innovation can provide a competitive advantage
