Course : PSY 340: Introduction to  School Psychology Department, College:   Psychology, Arts & Sciences  Faculty Member:  Susan M. Loftus Date returned to Faculty: February 27, 2014  Librarian Completing Assessment:   Margaret J. Keefe  Collection Management Officer:  Johanna Burkhardt    Assessment of:  • Suitability of existing library resources; • New library resources required to support the program; • Information skills education required by the students; and • Funds needed for library materials and services.  Please include:  1. What library holdings already exist in relevant subject categories, including supporting collections from HELIN. How much money is now allocated in the program area?  This topic is covered both by Psychology and Education, and has a reasonably strong collection when combined. The Psychology budget for the current year is  The topic is also strong at CCRI and RIC, and covered at the other HELIN libraries as well. In addition to PsycInfo, Education and Library Lit databases, material is covered in Academic Search, Communication Abstracts, Sociology Science Direct and even Compendex..  2. Does URI have the essential journals as noted in the Faculty Questionnaire?  The library does hold both titles listed.  Journal of School Psychology is available electronically from 1995 on, and also in paper from 1963-2002. School Psychology Review is available electronically from 1990 on with paper copies also from 1990-2002.    3. What new resources are required to support the program (including media, electronic, or other non-print materials)?   No new material is identified but the recent expansion of electronic journal packages improved access to journal material.     4. What information mastery sessions will be required for the students?  Most COM students should be fairly adept with Academic Search Premier and Communications Abstracts for identifying relevant journal literature by this time. They Most students, regardless of their com fort searching databases, need additional help locating the articles identified in the databases whether available through URI or Interlibrary Loan. Any sessions requested can be easily accommodated.    5. What is the approximate cost to acquire the materials necessary? Which of these will be continuing costs?  The proposed monographic allocation is ample for acquiring monographic resources. No allocation is available for additional journal titles or new databases (continuing costs).
