The present article, resulting from an ethnographic work, aims to approach the life
and work of Beliza Áurea de Arruda Melo and the history of the Paraiba Commission of
Folklore, highlighting facts and contributions to the studies on popular culture in Paraiba
that have been relevant throughout of your activities. It is important to know the activities
of this institution throughout its history to know its importance to society, its research and
actions to encourage popular culture in the State and its contribution to the development
of public policies. I decided to research about the life and work of Beliza, after searching
for texts about the culture of Paraíba on the internet, where I found works of his authorship
referring to the Northeastern culture. His trajectory helps us to better understand some of
the movements that emerged around the theme, such as the formation of Nuppo (Center
forResearch and Documentation for Popular Culture) and academic researchdeveloped
at the Federal University of Paraíba.NenhumaO presente artigo, resultante de um trabalho etnográfico, tem como objetivo
abordar a vida e a obra de Beliza Áurea de Arruda Melo e a história da Comissão
Paraibana de Folclore, destacando fatos e contribuições para os estudos sobre cultura
popular paraibana que tiveram relevo ao longo de suas atividades. Faz-se importante o
conhecimento das atividades dessa instituição ao longo de sua história para
conhecermos sua importância para a sociedade, suas pesquisas e ações de incentivo à
cultura popular no Estado e sua contribuição para o desenvolvimento de políticas
públicas. Decidi pesquisar sobre a vida e a obra de Beliza, após busca de textos sobre
a cultura paraibana na internet, onde encontrei obras de sua autoria referentes à cultura
nordestina. Sua trajetória nos ajuda a conhecer melhor alguns dos movimentos que
surgiram em torno do tema, como a formação do Nuppo (Núcleo de Pesquisa e
Documentação da Cultura Popular) e pesquisas acadêmicas desenvolvidas na
Universidade Federal da Paraíb
