AbstractEnforcement of EU environmental law is one of the most prominent challenges in the field of environmental policy. In this respect, national judges have to play a key-role for ensuring that EU environmental law is correctly applied. They have to guarantee that protection of environment as provided by EU law is a reality for more than 500 millions citizens. The recent new initiatives of judges and the Commission for developing co-operation among judges in Europe are demonstrating that, more than before, national judges are open to compare and discuss practises in different Member States.
