The purpose of these guidelines is to provide general and specific instructions for
surtitling and subtitling practices, following the multifaceted experience gained with
the Clashing Classics Festival, part of the CREA-CULT cooperative European project "(Trans)National European Theatre: audiovisual tools and simultaneous interpreting for the internationalisation of theatre production and consumption (TraNET)". It defines
the best practices implemented for synchronous multimedia environments (both physical and virtual) and asynchronous online fruition. Delving deeply into the process leading from the original play to the fruition of the performance, specific attention is paid to linguistic, cultural, and technical challenges posed by the sur/subtitling within the project as well as accessibility (interlinguistic and for SDH) and the alignment of translation standards with audience reception
