This article aimed to understand the motivations that led rural women workers from the Northeast to organize themselves in social movements, emphasizing the importance of the social representation of the group, incorporated by the movement, in addition to discussing how the experiences in the Movement of Rural Workers of the Northeast (MMTR-NE) , influences the social interrelationships of women. This study was carried out in a qualitative way, whose data were generated through the Story-Theme Drawing technique (DET). 31 women participated in the study, between January and March 2021. The research that generated this article emerged from the doctoral thesis, carried out within the scope of the Federal University of Bahia, in the Graduate Program in Nursing and Health and was approved by CEP/UFBA with CAAE nº: 37002720.1.0000.5531 Two categories were empirically created: Movement of Rural Women Workers of the Northeast: The fight for a feminine space where patriarchy created the stereotype of the “male goat” and Female leadership members of social movements: The fight for a socially acceptable power. After analysis, it was shown that the MMTR-NE respects the social perspectives of representation and did not surrender to the idiosyncrasies of the unions. Despite the outstanding difficulties, the female empowerment recognized in the members of this movement has immense potential for transforming unequal social relations.Este artigo objetiva compreender as motivações que levaram as mulheres trabalhadoras rurais nordestinas a se organizarem em movimentos sociais enfatizando a importância da representação social de grupo, incorporado pelo movimento, além de discutir como as vivências no Movimento de Trabalhadoras Rurais do Nordeste (MMTR-NE), influenciam nas inter-relações sociais dessas mulheres. Este estudo foi realizado de forma qualitativa, cujos dados foram gerados, por meio da técnica de Desenho Estória-Tema (DET). Participaram do estudo 31 mulheres, entre janeiro e março de 2021. A pesquisa que gerou este artigo emergiu da tese de doutorado, realizada no âmbito da Universidade Federal da Bahia, no Programa de Pós graduação em Enfermagem e saúde e foi aprovada pelo CEP/UFBA com CAAE nº: 37002720.1.0000.5531. Foram criadas empiricamente duas categorias denominadas: Movimento de Trabalhadoras Rurais do Nordeste: A luta por um espaço feminino onde o patriarcado criou o estereótipo do “cabra macho” e Lideranças femininas integrantes de movimentos sociais: A luta por um poder socialmente aceitável. Após análise evidenciou-se que o MMTR-NE, respeita às perspectivas sociais de representação, e não se rendeu às idiossincrasias dos sindicatos. Apesar das insignes dificuldades o empoderamento feminino reconhecido nas integrantes desse movimento tem imensa potencialidade de transformações das relações sociais desiguais
