Abstract
In connection with the Swedish Historians' Meeting in Uppsala on 22-24 April 2005, a network for educational history research was formed on the initiative of Professor Donald Broady. The network aimed to facilitate cooperation and communication between different academic disciplines within the field of educational history. The network today distributes information to a growing group of researchers, and has been linked to several other activities that link the field together. This includes not least the Nordic Journal of Educational History, and the Nordic educational history conferences. The creation of the educational history network constitutes an excellent starting point for an analysis of how Swedish and Nordic educational history research has developed over the past twenty years. In this book, this is accomplished in three parts. The first part of the book includes a few shorter chapters that aim to reflect on the development of the research field. The second part of the book is its most important contribution. This provides an overall picture of the development of educational history research based on a wide range of research environments, from Aalborg and Aarhus in the south to Falun and Umeå in the north. The third and final part of the book discusses some university and national structures within the research field.Although such a historiographical overview of educational history research over the past twenty years is the main purpose of the book, several of the chapters can also provide a more in-depth historical analysis of the development of a research field. With the history of education as a prism, this book also makes a contribution to the history of the social sciences and humanities
