The most important records in “tanks” about the
Pleistocene giant mammal in Bahia State was made in 50’s
decade, however, new findings were described in the last years.
In this paper a description of fossils belonging to the taxons:
Tardigrada (Megatheriidae, Eremotherium laurillardi), Proboscidea
(Gomphotheriidae, Stegomastodon waringi) and Notoungulata
(Toxodontidae, Toxodontinae) are made, with comments about
taphonomic and paleoecological aspects. These fossils were
collected in a “tank” (water role) located in municipality of Coronel
João Sá, Bahia. This is the first record of Pleistocene giant mammals
in this municipality.Os principais registros sobre as descobertas de fósseis
da megafauna (mamíferos gigantes) pleistocênica em tanques no
Estado da Bahia foram realizados na década de 50, no entanto,
trabalhos recentes começaram a divulgar novas localidades e
descrever os fósseis que nelas existem. O presente trabalho tem
com objetivos a descrição de fósseis pertencentes aos táxons:
Tardigrada (Megatheriidae, Eremotherium laurillardi), Proboscidea
(Gomphotheriidae, Stegomastodon waringi) e Notoungulata
(Toxodontidae, Toxodontinae), além da realização de inferências
tafonômicas e paleoecológicas. Estes fósseis foram coletados em
um tanque localizado na Fazenda Caraíba, município de Coronel
João Sá, Bahia, sendo este o primeiro registro da descoberta de
fósseis da megafauna neste município
