PGZ Naval Shipyard (PGZ SW) was established in 2017 as one of the integrated companies in the Polish Armaments Group S.A. It was formed to takeover from the indebted Naval Shipyard (SMW S.A. in liquidation bankruptcy) – tasks aimed at protecting the basic interests of the Polish state. Since 1922, the shipyard had been
responsible for ensuring the production, repair and servicing of ships, marine technology systems and other equipment necessary for the operation of the Polish Navy. PGZ SW's operational activities were inaugurated on January 3, 2018, the day it took over the assets of SMW, an enterprise with a tradition of more than 95 years.
The anti-monopoly regulations governing market concentration, required notification of PGZ SW's intention to carry out the SMW acquisition to the Office for
Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK). The article explains the legal
complexities involved in the acquisition of the old Polish Naval Shipyard by PGZ. The process has great geopolitical significance since the strengthening of the Polish Navy's combat capabilities depends on its success
