The article discusses the issue of securing and seizing computer data in the Polish criminal procedure. It presents the basic vocabulary related to the subject as well as pointing at the conceptual differences related to undertaking these activities in the digital background in comparison to traditional ways. It shows the basic features and methods of securing computer data and specifies the application of the provisions related to searching and seizing of physical items to a virtual environment. Furthermore, the author presents the disadvantages of the current regulation regarding to the collection of computer data and proposes changes aimed at improving the functioning of the discussed institution.Artykuł omawia problematykę zabezpieczania i zatrzymywania danych informatycznych w polskiej procedurze karnej. Przedstawia podstawowe pojęcia związane z podejmowaniem tych czynności w sferze cyfrowej oraz porównuje je do metod klasycznych. Prezentuje cechy oraz sposoby zabezpieczenia danych informatycznych oraz określa zakres zastosowania przepisów dotyczących przeszukania oraz zatrzymania rzeczy w kontekście wirtualnym. W dalszej części autor prezentuje problemy związane z gromadzeniem danych informatycznych oraz przedstawia propozycje zmian mających na celu usprawnienie działania omawianej instytucji
