Water Purification From Organic Polluttants by Using Micelle-Clay Systems

Abstract

Organo-clay complexes show several applications in the treatment of waste effluents, as extenders for activated carbon, and as components of clay barriers. Micellar organoclay filters were prepared by using SWy-2-Na-montmorillonite and octadecyl-trimethyl-ammonium-bromide (ODTMA) as surfactant. Atrazine contaminated water was purified retaining 76.5% of the initial amount in the micellar filter
