RAPID SCREENING OF ANTI-BACTERIAL COMPOUNDS AGAINST HUMAN SKIN MICROBE BY COLONY PICKING METHOD

Abstract

Cosmetics are made with differentorganic, inorganic compound and water. Therefore they have inevitable microbialcontamination. Though the chemical preservatives are used as a solution, consumers need to limit them. Finding natural preservatives will bring advantagesover the chemical preservatives. This study focused on developing anatural antibacterial compound as a cosmetic preservative. Nine randomlyselected marine bacterial species (Pseudoalteromonasxiamenensis, Pseudoalteromonas luteoviolacea (greencolony, G), Pseudoalteromonas luteoviolacea (purple colony, P), Pseudoalteromonasrubra, Pseudoalteromonas peptidolytica, Pseudoalteromonas piscicida, Ruegeriamobilis, Fictibacillus phosphorivorans, Vibrio alginolyticus) were tested for production of antibacterial compoundsagainst six strains of bacteria which are living on humanskin. (Staphylococcus aureus,Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans, Escherichia coli, Bacillis subtilis,Staphylococcusepidermidis)Antagonistic activityof marine bacteria was screened by colony picking method. Pseudoalteromonas luteoviolacea (G) andPseudoalteromonas luteoviolacea (P) showed the inhibition zone diameter againstseven species bacteria. Pseudoalteromonas peptidolytica and Pseudoalteromonaspisicicida was inhibited by Kocuria rhizophila. Hence, the present studyconfirmed that the antimicrobial activity of marine-derived bacteria could bepotential source to produce cosmetic preserv1
