The Calystegia soldanella (L.) Roem. & Schult. returns to Dokdo

Abstract

Dokdo is significant island with unique vegetation and rich biodiversity. The beach morning glory (Calystegia soldanella) was first reported on Dongdo (East Islet) in 1978, followed by an additional observations, but its natural presence remained uncertain for a long time. However, in 2023, a new colony of C. soldanella was discovered on the cliffs of Seodo (West Islet), with numerous blooming individuals indicating healthy growth conditions. This discovery suggests the resilience of Dokdo's natural environment and the stability of its ecosystem, highlighting the importance of regular monitoring of C. soldanella populations. Furthermore, ongoing ecological assessments and conservation efforts are essential for the long-term preservation of Dokdo's biodiversity.22Nkc
