Some considerations on postpartum depression

Abstract

Postpartum depression is a psychological disorder that affects the mother, the newborn and the family. The present review was developed with the aim of describing factors related to postpartum depression. Postpartum depression includes symptoms such as sadness, irritability, and anxiety, and can have adverse effects on mother-child bonding and infant development. Social, family, psychological and biological factors contribute to its development. Risk factors include neurotic personality, psychiatric history and previous depressive episodes, psychosocial and biological factors, such as hormonal changes.
