Trends in de incidentie, ziektelast en mortaliteit van valpartijen  bij ouderen verschillen aanzienlijk tussen Europese landen.  (dit proefschrift)2.  Ondanks een sterke toename in Nederland van het totaal aantal valgerelateerde ziekenhuisopnames, is het totaal aantal ligdagen  sterk afgenomen. (dit proefschrift)3.  Het is kosteneffectief om te investeren in valpreventie programma’s.  (dit proefschrift)4.  Valpreventie wordt in Nederland gekenmerkt door een ongestructureerde aanpak, met een gebrek aan het opsporen van kwetsbare ouderen, aanbieden van programma’s en stimuleren van deelname. (dit proefschrift)5.  De meest effectieve methode om thuiswonende ouderen te werven voor valpreventie activiteiten is een persoonlijke benadering door wijkverpleegkundigen. (dit proefschrift)6.  Een regierol van de huisarts is cruciaal bij de zorg van (kwetsbare) ouderen, zodat men langer zelfstandig thuis kan blijven wonen.7.  Buitenspelen op een jonge leeftijd heeft een positief effect op de gezondheid van individuen op een latere leeftijd.8.  Eenzaamheid op een latere leeftijd bestrijden is complex; het is beter  om het in een vroeg stadium te voorkomen, door een sterk sociaal netwerk op te zetten.9.  Een samenwerking tussen voedingswetenschap en geneeskunde is essentieel om de totale ziektelast terug te dringen.10.
