Abstract

This paper examines Claude Lévi-Strauss works in the light of the concept of totality. It relates his anthropological analysis of the totalising processes at work in wild‚ modes of thought to the structural theory of the work of art. In doing so, it seeks to bring to light the terms in which Lévi-Strauss conceives of our problematic relationship to the totality‚ that is the world we inhabit and some of the metaphors that he uses to express this relationship in the mytho-poetic part of his writings
