Abstract
The present country study is the fourteenth in the series and will be followed by studies of issues concerning other members and associated members of ESCAP. The countries covered by this series so far have been the Republic of Korea (1987) , Sri Lanka (1987) , the Philippines(1987) , Malaysia(1988) , Bangladesh (1989), Thailand(1989), China(1990), Indonesia(1991), Viet Nam (1993), Pakistan(1994) , Papua New Guinea(1994) , Fiji(1994) and India(1994).
This study was prepared using information from various official sources in Myanmar, and has been reviewed and approved by all relevant agencies of the Government of Myanmar.</p
