A preliminary study on strain measurements with FBGs in zeolitized tufitic rocks

Abstract

In this paper possible applications concerning displacement monitoring of tufitic slope of arailway road are considered. More specifically Fiber Bragg Grating sensors can be used in this type of applications. Deformations in this type of materials are caused by several factors besides mechanical stress i.e. humidity absorption and temperature variations. In order to verify these last two aspects specimens of the above mentioned materials have been prepared and subjected to temperature variations and to immersion in water containers. In the attempt to separate the two effects mesurements on bare sensor have been made in water which temperature was set to 40 . Bragg wavelength shifts have been recorded during the test and some preliminary correlation with the environmental conditions have been reported
