Six Cyclotella (Kütz.) Bréb. taxa from lakes and rivers of Latium and from the sourse
of the River Volturno, in Molise (Central Italy) have been investigated by light and scanning electron microscope. The morphology of the initial cells of C. distinguenda Hustedt was described for the first time on the basis of SEM observations. C. atomus Hustedt, C. choctawhatcheana Prasad, C. distinguenda Hustedt and C. pseudostelligera Hustedt are new records for Italy
