This paper deals with the realization of commissive speech acts found in Javanese language
which merely focus on Eastern-Javanese dialect especially in Bojonegoro and Surabaya
regions. In fact, commissive speech acts function to commit to some future action, such as
promises, plans, swears, threats, offers, and refusals. This paper is descriptive-qualitative study
which describes and analyzes commissive speech acts realization in Eastern-Javanese dialect
in society on their regular talk. The source of the data was commissive speech act utterances in
Eastern-Javanese language. In addition, the data were collected by implementing observation
method. Moreover, the data were gathered through the process of recording and also note-taking
techniques. In exploring the problem, the sociopragmatic approach was implemented. This
paper is intended to investigate how are the forms, uses and intentions of commissive speech
acts of Eastern-Javanese language and also how the performative acts in commissive speech
acts in the language were used. In addition, the data in this paper will be analyzed by using
Illocutionary Force Indicating Devices (IFIDs) and felicity conditions. The results of the
analysis show that the form of commissive speech acts, such as promises, plans, swears, threats,
offers, and refusals can be characterized by word forms and its context. In addition, it can be
seen that in commissive speech acts on Eastern-Javanese dialect, there are two forms of
performative utterances, implicit and explicit. Both impicit and explicit utterances can be found
in all category of commissive speech acts. However, the commissive speech acts in a form of
swearing can only be seen in explicit way, since it must be expressed clearly and directly.
Moreover, it can be also concluded that commissive speech act has great potential to build the
interpersonal bound between the speaker and the listener by reducing the tension and also
worries during the conversation
