Every step in human being life is usually celebrated by holding a traditional ceremony
according to each society community. In Indonesia, with thousands of tribes and
community, has a tremendous richness of culture, including traditional ceremony.
Panggih Pengantin ceremony as one of Javanese traditional marriage ceremony is really
interesting to be studied since its richness of symbolic things that can be digged its
meaning through metaphors study, especially anthropomorph metaphors. Metaphors, in
this ceremony, are not only contained in verbal symbol, but also non-verbal symbol. In
Panggih Pengantin ceremony, there are nine structuralized actions that has been
standardized for Javanese marriage ceremony, but it is still possible that there are
differences of actions among the area according to the agreement of the society. The
actions in this researched Panggih Pengantin ceremony consist of eight steps. The
metaphors used in every actions are analyzed its meaning. Then the result shows that the
metaphors used in this ceremony are for deliver the meaning or the value of the culture
through symbolic verbal and non-verbal things and actions
