Ercus bitipus is described as a new genus and new species of the Cephalobyrrhi- nae subfamily in temporary wetlands of the Araya peninsula, Sucre state (Northeast Venezuela). Ercus bitipus gen. nov. presents as main character the anterior margin of the pronotum slightly rounded (not sinuous or anteriorly medially arched as in the Throscinus species), the scutellum is small, not triangular with the anterior margin slightly angled. The new taxon was collected in a brackish water hydro-ecological sys- tem, associated with Cyanobacteria, representing a unique endemism character for the region, composing the first record of the Cephalobyrrhinae subfamily for Venezuela and the second genus for the Neotropic. The habitus and other sclerites of diagnostic interest are illustrated, as well as satellite images of the type locality.Se describe a Ercus bitipus como nuevo género y nueva especie de la subfamilia Cephalobyrrhinae en humedales temporales de la península de Araya, estado Sucre (Nororiente de Venezuela). Ercus bitipusgen.nov. presenta como carácter principal el margen anterior del pronoto ligeramente redondeado (no sinuoso o arqueado antero-medialmente como en las especies (Throscinus), el escutelo es pequeño no triangular con el margen anterior ligeramente angulado. El nuevo taxón fue recolectado en un sistema hidroecológico de agua salobre, asociado a Cianobacterias, el cual representa un carácter de endemismo único para la región, constituyendo el primer registro de la subfamilia Cephalobyrrhinae para Venezuela y el segundo género para el Neotrópico.
