This research had as objective to do a systematic bibliography review, analyzing the current
perspectives regarding to the relationship of dysphagia and vocal fold paralysis adjacent to
thyroidectomy. This review happened from March to September in 2020, with the Virtual
Health Library - VHL, MEDLINE / PubMed and Scielo, as the database for the research. It
was chosen to select published articles among the years of 2015 to 2020, which reported the
appearance of dysphagia and vocal fold paralysis in the pre or postoperative period of
thyroidectomy. The descriptors used were: “Thyroidectomy”, “Vocal fold paralysis” and
“Dysphagia. The used studies took place in the last five years of publications, showing the
main results on this theme. Seventy-three from the seventy-five analyzed studies were
excluded, because they did not present directly relationship with the objectives of the study
and only one study linked dysphagia and vocal fold paralysis with the thyroidectomy. The last
study related the symptoms from the deglutition after thyroidectomy. This (last) study
allowed us to observe not only the scarcity of scientific studies when we consider the
association of the two changes (dysphagia and vocal fold paralysis), but also the lack of
information regarding to the demand of patients who suffer from the changes in the pre or
postoperative period, that can may go unnoticed by the multidisciplinary team.Essa pesquisa teve como objetivo realizar uma revisão bibliográfica sistemática, analisando as
perspectivas atuais referentes à relação da disfagia e da paralisia de prega vocal adjacentes da
tireoidectomia. Esta revisão ocorreu no período de março a setembro de 2020, tendo a
Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde - BVS, MEDLINE/PubMed e Scielo, como base de dados para a
pesquisa. Optou-se por selecionar artigos publicados entre os anos de 2015 a 2020, que
relatassem a aparição da disfagia e da paralisia de prega vocal no período pré, ou pósoperatório da tireoidectomia. Os descritores utilizados foram: “Tireoidectomia", "Paralisia de
prega vocal" e "Disfagia. Os estudos utilizados se enquadram nos últimos cinco anos de
publicações, mostrando os principais resultados a respeito deste tema. Setenta e três dos
setenta e cinco estudos analisados foram excluídos, porque não apresentaram relação direta
com os objetivos do estudo e apenas um estudo vinculou a disfagia e a paralisia de prega
vocal com a tireoidectomia. O último estudo relacionou os sintomas provenientes da
deglutição após a tireoidectomia. Este (último) estudo permitiu observar não só a escassez de
trabalhos científicos quando consideramos a associação das duas alterações (disfagia e
paralisia de prega vocal), mas também a desinformação quanto a demanda de pacientes que
sofrem com as alterações no período pré ou pós-operatório, que pode passar despercebido
pela equipe multidisciplinar
