ICT services traininggroup's earnings forFY14 expected todecline as new jobs yetto contribute ... page 16Prestariangaffected bycontractrenewal delaysPrestariangaffected bycontractrenewal delaysICT services training group's earningsfor FY14 expected to decline as new jobsyet to contribute by Gordon LowA delay in the renewal of contracts inexisting projects and with new jobs notexpected to start contributing soon,the performance of Prestariang Bhd isexpected to be impacted in FY14.Analysts are expecting Prestariang tosee weaker contributions from its coreICT licensing, training and certificationdivision and at least one research househas cut its earnings forecast for thecompany.November had been a busy month forthe ICT services training group, whichsigned two memoranda of understand­ing (MoUs) with MIE Corp and CIDBHoldings Sdn Bhd for ICT training. It alsolaunched a big data competency centre(BDCC).However, these collaborations are notexpected to contribute to group earningsin FY14.MIE Corp, a consortium comprisingCTCI­Chiyoda IV of Taiwan and Synerlitz(Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, has successfullytendered for a particular package underthe Refinery and Petrochemicals Inte­grated Development (Rapid) project inPengerang, lohor."The management is aiming forbetter results in the coming financialyear supported by contracts renewalbut the company is likely to post weakerresults in FY14," an analyst with a localinvestment bank says.To­date, Prestariang is involved inseven training programmes, which couldgenerate recurring income.For H1FYL4 ended June 30, Prestar­iang's net profit slipped 29.3% to RM13.44mil from RM19 mil a year earlier on alower revenue of RM53.4 mil against theRM49.6 mil in the previous correspond­ing period. Prior to FY14, the companyhad achieved stronger earnings with netprofit growing from RM33.6 mil in FY11to RM42.1 mil in FY13.RHB Research Institute Sdn Bhd,in a research note on Prestariang, sayscore earnings in the first half of FY14were below the full­year estimation dueto slower­than­expected contract flow."We noticed there have not beenany major contract announcements inH1FY14, with its last contract announcedin November last year. In our view, thismay take a toll on its H2FY14 earnings.As such, we are taking a pre­emptiveapproach by cutting our FY14 earningsforecast by 12.8% to RM28.7 mil, takinginto account weaker contribution from itscore ICT licensing, training and certifica­tion division," the research house says.Prestariang's principal business is theprovision of ICT professional training andcertification undertaken with industrypartners such as Microsoft, IBM, Oracleand Autodesk. The last contract it securedcame from Yayasan Peneraju PendidikanBumiputra for skill training certificationin oil and gas (O&G) for riggers, scaffold ­ers and pipe­fitters under the PenerajuTunas Iltizam Programme."We also caution that potential delaysin firming up a strategic partner for itsuniversity could translate into furthernear­term losses," RHB Research says.The weaker earnings outlook has seenPrestariang's shares trading 23% lower atRM1.53 on Nov 20, down from RM2.02 onApril 30, the day it went ex­bonus issue.The company had declared a one­for­onebonus issue of 220 million shares.Despite the delay in securing somecontracts, analysts are positive that theMoU signed with MIE Corp will enableHeadline 42,408the company to bring its ICT trainingbusiness into the Rapid project.On Nov 3, Prestariang and MIECorporation agreed to undertake a pre­liminary study to review the feasibility ofsetting up of a joint­venture company tosupply manpower, both local and foreign,to the O&G industry, including the Rapidproject.The analyst says the RM60 bil Rapidproject would require a large numberof workers. Prestariang can tap intothe mammoth project by supplying theneeded manpower.Rapid is a major downstream oil, gasand petrochemical project in Pengerang,Johor, which is spearheaded by Petronas.It comprises a crude oil refinery with acapacity of 300,000 barrels per day, anaphtha cracker and would see thefurther development of 22 mini­petro­chemical complexes."The company is expected to receiveconsiderable contribution from thissegment and it may become one of themain contributors, albeit it is too early togive estimated earnings numbers at thisjuncture," the analyst states.Public Investment Bank Researchbelieves the JV company will not only helpimprove the employability of Prestariang'strainees and expand the industry net­work, but also generate ancillary incomefor the company in the future given the"one­stop" service provided for Rapidproject workforce. The venture would alsolessen the worries for project players, whoneed at least 10,000 workers.The tie­up with MIE Corp is notPrestariang's first venture into the O&Gindustry as it is providing software andtraining to the sector under the Oil andGas Enhancement Programme. As ofFY13, it has secured RM9.1 mil worthof projects for training and certificationfrom TalentCorp, the Ministry of Financeand Yayasan Penerajaru PendidikanBumiputra.The company sees skills training inthe O&G industry as one of its revenuedrivers.Another MoU it entered into on Nov16 is an agreement with CIDB to providecomprehensive training of Autodesk soft­ware in building information modelling(BIM) for the building and constructionindustry.The accord marks the firstcollaborative effort to boost trainingefforts for BIM users. Under the MoU,Prestariang will be the preferred trainingand certification provider for the regis­tered members of CIDB.The analyst says Prestariang hadalways wanted to provide training for theconstruction industry and the MoU withCIDB enables it to do so.Prestariang sees the local construc­tion and engineering industries tocontinue moving rapidly into the nextmillennium supported by the dynamicgrowth of the software and IT industry,it says in its FY13 annual report.Prestariang is currently the masterdistributor and authorised training centreof Autodesk software for the education,O&G and construction sectors whileBIM is one of the emerging technologiesto be deployed in the planning, design,construction, and facility management.BIM provides an object­orienteddatabase that is made up of intelligentobjects, the 3D representation of inte­grated information, and a relationaldatabase that is interconnected.In mid­November, Prestariang alsoofficially launched the first phase of itsBDCC, which is a joint initiative withthe Ministry of Education, for four localuniversities and one polytechnic toprovide a training platform to cultivateand drive talents towards supporting andstrengthening the global growth of the bigdata industry.The analyst says Prestariang will bethe BDCC operator and the training pro­vider for the universities and polytechnicwhere seven courses will be offered. Thecompany will also be involved in certi­fication services and big data analyticssoftware and solution."The company is also involved incareer placement, like JobStreet, for thebig data­trained students," the analystadds."The company is expected to trainup to 2,500 students over the next threeyears, and the estimated fees are aboutRM6,000 to RM10,000 per student.However, the project would only startcontributing to earnings six months fromnow," he says.The BDCC initiative will also seethe participation of global IT playerssuch as Oracle, IBM, EMC, Microsoft,SAS and Unisys. Four universities and apolytechnic are also involved in the firstphase of the BDCC. They are UniversitiUtara Malaysia (Kedah), Universiti SainsMalaysia (Penang), Universiti MalaysiaTerengganu, Universiti Malaysia Sarawakand Politeknik Ibrahim Sultan Johor. IJ!­1' .!Headline
