“Trabalhadas no feminino”: um estudo sobre corpo, desejo e prostituição travesti em Fortaleza‐CE

Abstract

This work takes as its focus of analysis transvestite prostitutes in Fortaleza, Brazil. Are presentednarratives about their body transformations, an experience that includes a set of processes andexperiences. In contrast to conceptions of identity which emphasize coherence and linearity, Ipresent autobiographical trajectories and reports contextualized by discontinuities. Transvestitesmake transformations in their physical shapes, whether with the endorsement of the medicine orclandestine manner. I understand that the use of these bodies as objects of desire displayed inthe "streets" goes beyond the discussions that permeate Travestiler as a stigmatized reality. In thefield work, I mobilized methodological tools that allowed the apprehension of singularities andexpressiveness concerning the complex experience of trying to "Live as a woman" twenty‐fourhours a day.Este trabalho toma como foco de análise travestis que se prostituem na cidade de Fortaleza‐Ce.São apresentadas narrativas sobre suas transformações corporais, experiência que engloba umconjunto de processos e vivências. Contrastando com concepções de identidades que privilegiama coerência e a linearidade, apresento trajetórias e relatos autobiográficos contextualizados pordescontinuidades. Travestis efetuam transformações em suas formas físicas, seja com o aval damedicina legal ou na clandestinidade. Entendemos que a utilização destes corpos como objeto dedesejo expostos nas “ruas” vai além das discussões que permeiam a travestilidade como uma rea‐lidade estigmatizada. No trabalho de campo, mobilizei ferramentas metodológicas que permiti‐ram a apreensão de singularidades e de expressividades concernentes à complexa experiência detentarem “passar por mulher” vinte e quarto horas por dia
