Abstract
Introduction: Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare infectious disease, but frequently misdiagnosed in its initial phase, characterized by tissue necrosis, rapid progression, and fatal complications. Objective: To provide updated knowledge for the comprehensive management and scientific research of necrotizing fasciitis. Methods: For the development of this review, 50 relevant publications were used, between 2019 and 2023, on necrotizing fasciitis in the field of Plastic Surgery and Orthopedics. 109 documents were consulted from the databases of the MEDLINE, PubMed, Scielo reference systems and indexed in the Web of Sciences, Scopus and Redalyc, using the descriptor necrotizing fasciitis. Conclusions: Early diagnosis, intensive treatment, intravenous antibiotic therapy and surgical debridement remain the cornerstone of the management of this disease, in order to reduce the morbidity and mortality rate.Introducción: La fascitis necrotizante es una enfermedad infecciosa, poco común; pero de frecuente error en el diagnóstico en su fase inicial, caracterizada por necrosis tisular, rápida evolución y complicaciones mortales. Objetivo: Aportar conocimiento actualizado para el manejo integral y la investigación científica de la fascitis necrotizante. Métodos: Para el desarrollo de esta revisión bibliográfica se utilizaron 50 publicaciones pertinentes, entre 2019 y 2023 sobre la fascitis necrotizante en el campo de la Cirugía Plástica y la Ortopedia. Se consultaron 109 documentos de las bases de datos de los sistemas referativos MEDLINE, PubMed, Scielo e indexadas en la Web of Sciences, Scopus y Redalyc, con el uso del descriptor: fascitis necrotizante. Conclusiones: El diagnóstico oportuno, un tratamiento intensivo, antibióticoterapia endovenosa y un desbridamiento quirúrgico, continúan como piedra angular del manejo de esta enfermedad, con el fin de disminuir la tasa de morbilidad y mortalidad.
