For more information, please contact kyle.morgan@humboldt.edu.  90 Play for the Experience and Not the Outcome by William Simms Jr Did you know that around 28.1 million Americans play basketball from the age six and up, with the second closest sport being baseball at 15.5 million participants. Sports have a positive impact on kids all over the world. However, on the Indian reservation, where sports are all we have, it especially makes positive impacts on kids' lives. Basketball is my favorite sport; it is my happy place and it helps me take my mind off things.   Playing sports not for the outcome, but for the experience. Most people quit sports at age 13 because they can’t live up to their parents’ and coaches’ expectations and fun is considered winning. I play sports with my friends to get a better experience and have fun. I also celebrate the small things too. All in all, for the longevity of your sports career, it is important to play for the experience, not the outcome.  There are many ways to have fun while playing sports such as celebrating the small victories, like good plays or teamwork, playing with friends: that can make the experience more enjoyable, the social aspect often outweighs the competitive nature allowing for laughter and camaraderie. Therefore there are many ways to have fun playing sports.   Basketball is my favorite sport, the reason it’s my favorite sport is because it takes my mind off things in life. If I could stay in the gym shooting a basketball 24/7, I would without a doubt. I would live there if I could, but I can’t so when I get in there to practice I go 100% all the time. I want to be the best at what I do so that's the reason I go all out even when I’m hurt. I’ve been playing basketball since I was six. I've always had a passion for it, and it taught me to pass my limits. In conclusion these are the reasons why I love the sport basketball.   All in all, kids all over the world play basketball, but on my reservation, it’s all we have. If I ask kids what their favorite sport is, nine times out of ten they're gonna say basketball.
